Bug Description

Hotot just displays a grey box on startup and never asks for credentials. the panel icon displays but the drop down menu items don't respond when clicked (except for the 'quit' icon...that works).

I’ve attached a screen grab of the box that appears.

This bug only occurs when trying to acquire an access token from Twitter. A workaround is in comment 5. A second workaround is to install and use the hotot-qt package.

A little workaround:
When you enter your Tweeter username, after that everything is blank but when you move your cursor around, the pointer changes shape.
You move your cursor until it changes like when you click a button or a link. There are several places like that. The tooltip describes what a click does. I think somewhere around the center you have a link to authorize Hotot to Twitter. When you click that, it opens a Firefox window to Twitter to authorize the app. It gives you a code to enter in the Hotot app.
Go to Hotot and move your cursor in the lower area until the cursor changes shape and the tooltip says "Cancel". A little above that the cursor changes like when you are entering text. Blindly input the code in that spot. With your cursor return to the "Cancel" spot and move to the right until the tooltip says "Ok" (I think).
If you did everything right, Hotot will log you in and it will remember the login information. The second time you open Hotot, it will display the blank window for the moment, but after that everything will work just fine.
It's a little messy, but in this way you can use Hotot until they resolve the bug.

I can confirm this only happens with/under Xubuntu.

I guess it would be a better solution for those who can't get past the authorization screen if someone who can actually see anything posted a picture... That way I could know better where to actually input the code, because I can't find it.

I've been clicking OK and I'm not getting through.

@Claudio Ribeiro : I attached to this comment a tarball with 2 screenshots of Hotot - before and after clicking.

Moreover, I launched Hotot in a terminal and I got the following error message when the white screen appears :

** (hotot:6882): WARNING **: Binding '<Alt>C' failed!

Confirmed that I am able to replicate the issue on Ubuntu 12.10 64-bit under Unity. I am also getting the same error.

** (hotot:5528): WARNING **: Binding '<Alt>C' failed!

Wandering around the blank white screen with my mouse never turned up a tooltip.

I managed to sign in thanks to the workaround provided by abucan. But the window looks all ugly. Screenshot attached.

This bug affects me either. The workaround provide by abucan "fix it" but the blank screen is still there. I'm using ubuntu 12.10. I don't know if it's important but the same problem occur with gwibber...

With regards to the workaround, it seems clicking cancel will display the sign in window for an instant. I've managed to get a screenshot of this so others can see the approximate positions of buttons, text boxes etc.

The issue might be related to a problem of version of libwebkitgtk with hotot
