I'm surprised this bug is very old..and still ongoing. Ubuntu focal.

Unlike @estanislao-gonzalez-r, I'm not using lvm but still have the same problem.

Meanwhile GRUB_RECORDFAIL_TIMEOUT=1 does the trick..
