Actually the "Alert volume" does affect the volume of the drum sound I get when using Tab in a terminal.
And I now notice that the sound I get in the terminal is actually two sounds together: a sort of drum and the one I choose in the Settings menu.

This is stupid:
- it plays two sounds simultaneously, one of which I can choose and the other I can't (or I can through a separate configuration which God knows where the fuck it is)
- I can't seem to choose which events play sounds and which don't. If I reduce the "Alert volume" to zero, I'm afraid I'll be muting other kinds of alert sound that I do want to hear.
