ok, I think I fixed this, woo!

I'm happy that the fix is only 2.5 lines, 2 lines of which are somewhat trivial. I think the fix integrates well.

I'm not really sure what happened with the original upstream bug report. I suspect that this bug is not the same as the gnome bug. Plus I'm a noob, so I don't really know what to do.

I've only coded for jaunty, but it should be very simple to put into karmic. Let me know if you would like that.
