I think the cause of this bug was misunderstood by someone.
I also get hanging after screen goes blank in 11.04 (natty) but switching to VT1 and killing gnome-screensaver doesn't help (and I don't even think it's the cause).
Every time I notice this problem the last line of Xorg.0.log was like:
"[ 1914.240] (II) AIGLX: Suspending AIGLX clients for VT switch".
Problem can be easily reproduced in my system: set 1 minute display timeout on Power Management and wait.
It doesn't hang every time screen goes black, but every time it hang, Xorg.0.log contains that message.
Maybe is more frequent if the browser is playing Flash content.
