same here with eee 1005ha-P. on karmic final.

using xset-dpms works, but nothing else.

I disabled screensaver to see if it actually sleeps, but I'm not confident since trying to turn off the screen through eeepc-acpi hotkey doesn't work either (I just get a notification on screen saying "Display OFF", lovely but otherwise useless).
