Bug Description

I have Karmic installed on my Eee 2g model and Palimpsest disk utility began to state that my SSD drive is now failing. Thing is that I haven't had internal SSD mounted and this started right after first sleep state of this laptop. Now when computer has been up for couple of hours and looking it right now this utility states that last test completed ok (minute ago) and assessment "passed"

Drive model is 2.0GB ATA Siliconmotion SM223AC

Doesn't really raise the quality of upcoming release if this kind of activity from this utility is common ;)

Likely just needs some very little tweak concerning laptop hibernation when system comes back?

*edit*
Oh, this hasn't happened just one time. It's happens every single time after hibernation.

I get a warning every time I boot Karmic that one of my drives (of which I only have one) is failing, but smartmontools disagrees:

The long test completed without error. The conveyance test isn't supported on my drive, but I thought I'd try it and see what it reported.

I should also note that mine is on an Acer Ferrari 4005WLMi - so not an EeePC and not SSD.

I have the same problem with my Asus eee-pc 701 4G ; I have discussed this on ubuntu.fr and another user with the same netbook answered he had the same issue

smart attribute-32, 52, 54 etc (all without manufacturer descriptions) show bad numbers and trigger the systray warning

Is this really a duplicate of bug 412152??
412152 is about mechanical hard drives bad sectors and we have here solid state drives and other warning messages...

I really think there are two different issues here ; james tait, you should post on bug 412152 : as others there, palimpsest detects a classical hard drive that's going to fail (except that manufacturers tools or smartctl show no sign of this : palimpsest triggers a warning after one single sector reallocated, where the others have react after for example 50)
bug 416558 (here) is about warnings of solid state drives, maybe especially those on Asus eee-pc (original?) netbooks : no bad sectors here, just some random unexplained (by the SSD manufacturer) SMART "attributes" (attribute-32, 52, 54, 73 and 84) triggering what appears false positives...

I agree, I think this is not a dupe - Eee's SSD's undocumented parameters raise this alarming warning. it usually happens after a suspend.
