Here's a fresh xtrace.log. Same procedure as before, except I made sure to only press Fn+F7 once total (whereas before I had pressed it several times by mistake before connecting the VGA cable).
Procedure is:
- start xtrace
- set video output to LVDS
- disconnect VGA cable
- killall gnome-settings-daemon
- start gnome-settings-daemon with DISPLAY=:9.0
- connect VGA cable
- wait 5 seconds
- press Fn+F7
- crash
