Bug Description

Hi,

I would like Gedit to doing word wrap automatically when the cursor reaches the right margin.
Currently I have to expicitly press the enter key when the cursor comes close to the right margin.

What version of gedit are you using? If you go to Edit --> Preferences --> View; do you find any settings regarding word wrapping?

Hi,

This is Gedit 2.24.2.
Yes I do find 2 settings for Test Wrapping : For enabling Word Wrap
and for disabling splitting of long words.

Guess I should also ask the question which I thought was implied :-) Does those two options do what you would expect them to?

If so, is it ok if I mark this bug as invalid?

Hi,

The two options do seem to do what they say they do - Make the right
margin visible and also disable splitting of long words during word
wraps.

However, in almost all text editors the right margin is actually a
boundary for the word wrap. Here in gedit it is just a visual boundary
- no wrapping takes place at the right margin.

To resume, I would call this feature "physical" or "hard" word wrap. Very useful sometime, and the basic reason to continue using tools like [x]jed, [x]emacs or vi[m]. Would be nice to have it in gedit.

Does this still occur on Ubuntu 18.10 "Cosmic Cuttlefish" with gedit 3.30.2-0ubuntu0.18.10.2?
