Because setting a cookie on ".example.org" makes it available to
"www.example.org", "example.org", and "sub1.example.org". This is invaluable to
dynamic sites which make usage of subdomains.

The problem is simply that Mozilla currently doesn't see the difference between
".example.org" and ".co.uk" (which is reasonable, but definitely a problem...)
