3.0~alpha8+nobinonly-0ubuntu1 is not affected. Both settings of MOZ_DISABLE_PANGO bottom out at 2.6 seconds with quite a bit variation upwards.
Firefox 2.0.0.11 is 3.7/1.8 seconds and Swiftfox is 1.4 seconds at the moment.
