I'm also experiencing the same problem but my system is a AMD64 3000+ with 1gb Ram, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro and 2 Nics, a Via Gigabit onboard and a basic 3com NIC. I'm using Breezy 5.10 64bit with Kernel 2.6.12. Everytime I try to log to my bank's site, which uses a VM keyboard, Firefox closes immediately. I tried with Mozilla and its the same. Firefox and Mozilla are the only programs that crashes immediately when using Java. I have gone to ITV's website and I can navigate there with no probs at all. at work I use Breezy 5.10 but 32bit and I can log to my bank's website and use the Java VM Keyboard with no probs at all.
