There is patched version of firefox available in AUR for KDE environment (Arch Linux users). It has better integration for KDE than the default and official firefox build. I compiled it with provided patches and, after all, file associations are finally as they should be in the first place - out-of-the-box, immediately. Running KDE 4.14.4.

I used to run Firefox from official Arch Package repos. File associations were just a mess at that time.
