It may be a GNOME problem but then it happens on at least two different distributions: Suse (cf Dutch Kind's report) and Mandriva (where I had the same problem).
Whether or not this is a duplicate of bug 296443 depends on what will be done regarding that one. If bug 296443 is to be fixed (ie, xdg is adopted) then I guess this one won't be much relevant.
