The problem is that something went wrong when the packages were built.

It looks like the builder ignored "echo" and "printf" commands in debian/rules.

if you grab the source and try to build it locally it will work.

See the attached output of my pbuilder chroot and compare it with the build log from launchpad:

I'll investigate the issue.
