Bug Description

When I download a file from Chromium by choosing the "open" option (so the file is saved in /tmp AFAIK), when I do a file-save copy... I get this error in the red ribbon:

    Error setting extended attribute 'xdg.origin.url': Operation not supported

The file seems to save fine, though, so there seems to be no reason for this error notification.

Don't know if it makes a difference, but my /tmp is set to mount in memory, since I run a SSD. This is my fstab entry:

tmpfs /tmp tmpfs defaults,noatime,mode=1777 0 0

Expected behaviour - no error notification.

I just ran into the same problem - when trying to copy a file to a FAT32 formatted USB stick. I'm wondering if the target filesystem format has something to do with it?

FAT32 does not support extended attributes.

Not anything to do with FAT32 (I don't think) as I just ran into the same issue copying a file to a NFS mounted EXT4 filesystem.

Same here. I always see this message when saving to an NFS mounted fs, yet it saves correctly.

Mount info:
... type nfs (rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,intr,noacl,rsize=32768,wsize=32768,vers=4)

I just upgraded to 10.04 and I've never experience this error message until now. I'm getting it wheather I cut and paste, copy and paste or drag and drop files to a usb drive. In all cases the file is transferred.

This error also happens when copying a file to a cifs mount or USB stick.

Same problem here also Xubutu 14.04.
Every time thunar copies a file to connected usb device I get this error. Don't think this bug report is a duplicate of #1096837, I don't even use evince and it happens with every file, regardless of extension.

Same here on Xubuntu 14.04 as well as Linux Mint 17 XFCE. The other downside of this error is that is you are moving files, it causes the affected originals to not be deleted, meaning you have to go back to the source directory and delete them manually.

It is not a duplicate of bug #1096837 - it happens in Thunar while coping to USB sticks, external (FAT/NTFS) drives or NFS mounts.

Definitely not a duplicate of that evince bug. The two bugs don't seem remotely related.

I clicked to remove the linked duplicate, thinking it wouldn't work since I'm not an admin or anything and it removed!

This needs reporting to Xfce bug tracker. I will do so if no-one else has by next week.

Also for anyone getting annoyed by this bug, a workaround is to install pcmanfm, which is based on Thunar. Then just set your default file manager to pcmanfm in the Settings Manager -> Preferred Applications.

The two file managers are very alike so nothing feels out of place when using pcmanfm.
