On Ubuntu Gutsy with Compiz 1:0.5.2+git20070918-0ubuntu5 and xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.7.193-1ubuntu1

the problem seems to have disappear. Since two days, I use a ATI radeon X300 card with compiz fusion, I've experienced no crash and nothing unstable.
