Lincoln: can you be a little bit more specific? If you disable the AT stuff in the Session manager, does that cause the problem to go away?
(System -> Preferences -> Sessions -> Startup Programs tab -- the ones which seem relevant are the AT-SPI Registry Wrapper [no idea what it does, but AT-SPI is the accessibility voodoo], and Visual Assistance. I would place my bets on the first one.)
