So for karmic, we should perhaps just prefer it over anything else? Or
at least over swap and ext*? I think these two are the only ones that
truly matter for booting. As you say, we shouldn't do too much
guesswork on broken USB sticks anyway (with cases like luks over VFAT,
or VFAT over luks, both of which are plausible, and both of which are
known not to clean up superblocks properly).
