Comment 39 for bug 78455

Apparently, this bug is *still* present as of.... Feb 11, 2022, in Ubuntu 22.04 .

A fix has already been suggested in https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=717778

Could this be patched, please? It's really sad to not be able to use checkinstall for what it is meant for - a quick way to make one's own packages.
