Checking CD-ROM integrity box jumps up and down

Bug Description

Checking CD-ROM integrity box jumps up and down to vertically center itself depending on whether the "Checking file:" path is one line or two. Since the path can alternate between one line or two several times a second the flickering quickly becomes annoying.

A couple ideas for fixing:
 - Turn off vertical centering
 - Pad the path length to always be two lines

I noticed the same problem.

Maybe you could just exclude the path information in the progress dialog -- it is strictly to give the user a sense of "progress". The individual file names shouldn't line-wrap and that would make them easier on the eyes.

Note I have not watched Martin's video - missing the codecs, but this bug sounds like what I was going to report as an ugly/messy screen (see my screenshot).

Points to consider:

(1) You also don't really need the word "Checking" for every line.

(2) While the list of files will vary from release to release, you should know in advance roughly how long the longest line should be, and plan accordingly.

(3) If you don't want to change the screen layout, then I would left trim the paths for display on a single line, and add a "..." to show this has been truncated.

(4) Assuming that what I saw (see screenshot) is the expected layout (*), why not simply use more of the screen width?

(*) = I know the vertical sync is somehow wrong on my machine, so I can't see the last couple of lines off the bottom without tweaking the monitor. I should report that as a separate issue.

On bug 57904 I was told the cd-rom checker used on boot CDs is "casper" rather than "cdrom-checker" so perhaps my previous comment should be a separate bug. Or this entire bug should be moved to "casper" rather than "cdrom-checker"

I'm changing the package to casper based off Colin's comment in 57904.

My comment on bug 57904 was based on the desktop CD. This bug is about the alternate CD, where the CD-ROM checking tool is cdrom-checker. I'm putting this bug back where it was; please leave it there.
