Does your adapter require being toggled from hid into hci modes? What bluetooth adapter are you using? Perhaps is the adapter just missing a reset quirk in that case?
Please retry on the latest bluez upload, as it may cover your case:

* Add logitech_5500_ids.patch for enabling hid2hci on
