The problem is the following line:

Err http://ppa.launchpad.net lucid/main Packages
  404 Not Found
W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/mercurial/releases/ubuntu/dists/lucid/main/binary-amd64/Packages.gz 404 Not Found

The cron job runs unattended-upgrade only if [ $UPDATED -eq 1 ]
