I think I have the same alsa-base.conf as Richard has posted.
Also @Daniel, I ran that command on my system and got the following:
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf:40:# replaced by asus-laptop (Ubuntu: #184721) /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf:41:blacklist asus_acpi
Not sure if Richard would find the same thing or not.
