uname -rs keeps returning the Linux 5.4.0-28-generic despite having upgraded the kernel to either of the solutions you mentioned.. it says it has upgraded successfully then after the reboot returns the same variant.
This is the sort of problem I would have expected from a beta release and most certainly not a LTS
I know this is done with volunteers but as a basic user I should not have to be replacing kernels ... I'm still not sure why I am trying to replace a kernel when the Gnome variant is still not updating .. are they the one and the same? if they are why are they on different variants? if they aren't then what I am doing tinkering with the kernel?
there is no clear place that outlines the relationships between the various components .. its just assumed knowledge!
