I have Asus ROG GX501VIK laptop with same issue.
Device: Audio device: Intel Corporation CM238 HD Audio Controller (rev 31)
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC295 Analog [ALC295 Analog]

Solution from comment #8 worked like a charm.
