Comment 24 for bug 307645

I have had this problem on my desktop since ~Ubuntu 8.10 or so, and it's continued to the latest Ubuntu and Mint releases, although it is significantly worse in Mint 9 now. I've tried setting 'acpi=off' in my boot settings, but that stops my mouse from working, so I reverted that without being able to see if it helped with crashes.
