Hi,

I am facing what I suppose to be the same issue on a Dell Optiplex 740, with the same graphic card and almost the same processor (an AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+), running the nouveau driver.
Xubuntu 14.04 often hangs at boot : it begins with corrupted graphics (very similar of the one attached) on the boot splash followed by a complete freeze of the computer (lightdm never appears and I can't access to TTY).
Recently I also tried booting removing the "splash" option in grub (thinking that the problem was comming from the bootsplash), but the computer froze again, so the bootsplash is not the problem.

I have never seen the computer freezing atfter lightm has appeared : it only happened on during the boot.

I previously tried Debian Jessie on this computer, with Gnome and Cinnamon, wich both causing corrupted graphics and followed by a complete freeze. Debian Jessie with Xfce never froze. The report is here, including system logs and similar screenshot : https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=771416

Please apologize if I should instead open another bug report.
I would also be glad if I can help : feel free to contact me.
