It's just a matter of changing settings in Launchpad to enable translations in the upstream project and message sharing with the Ubuntu source package, which shouldn't take more than 5 minutes.
Then decide whether the translations should be automatically committed to the trunk branch (recommended) or to a separate one and then periodically merge it back to trunk.
I think it makes sense, and if there is interest from the Unity developers, I'll be happy to help setting this up.
