I believe what Bruce Wagner might be referring to here has already been brought up and that is the fact that the MP3 format is proprietary in itself. Sorry for using wikipedia as a reference but this will show you although I know that most if not all of you will already know this fact: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proprietary_format#Currently_proprietary . Regardless, the plugin itself is not proprietary as has been explained however in an ideal world Ubuntu itself should be trying its best to use stores which are able to sell music in the .ogg as well as the .mp3 formats which again has been said before. We'll just have to wait and see what will actually happen regarding this little mess.
