I haven't noticed this phenomenon yet. my Gmail IMAP account is shared via my iPhone, and my TouchPad (running Android). After Unsubscribing from the [Gmail]\Trash folder, TB is still using my custom "Deleted" folder when I delete a message.
@Tim: I agree- this is annoying, but I'm hopeful my workaround is temporary, mind you I get the feeling that the current mode of operation of TB is considered "correct" :( You can always use the web interface to access Gmail's Trash. I never use Shift-Delete, and my iPhone is set to delete mail to trash, so I use it when I want to clear out messages I know I won't need.
