Bug Description

0.15.2: Turning on mirror distortion gives odd result in Mac/el Capitan. (Macbook Pro Retina)
 Sky blocky gray and white.
Going back to 0.15.1 - which has quirks but still works.

In 0.15.1, if you save with the mirror distortion selected, quit and relaunch, the whole stellarium window is reduced to the lower left corner of the laptop screen, but at least you can start up as fisheye and turn on mirror (but just don't save the mirror as default).

OK here is 0.15.1:
I open in fisheye, then choose mirror distortion. I get this which is fine:

Then I save as default view and quit. When I next open 0.15.1, the view goes to the lower corner: (this is reproducible but SOMETIMES doesn’t happen IF you are connected to a HD projector when you save and restart).

My work-around was not saving in mirror, but in fisheye, and selecting mirror after opening. Annoying but ok.

so I was hopeful when 0.15.2 came out.
It opened fine in fisheye (just like 0.15.1)

But then I select "mirror distortion", here’s what I get (view varies by time of day but always in the top 3/4 of the screen:

and when I tried to search for the Sun, to see if that might center it properly, it crashed:

Note I had all other apps off and I had rebooted.

Hope this is helpful. I really like Stellarium but this is a step backward for Macs...

Here is a larger image of just the failed distortion (had to reduce size in previous report to stay under 10 MB limit).

Also please note Sierra saves defaults, etc differently than previous versions of Mad OS and may require some changes. I’m not upgrading yet because of that.

Thank you for this.

I have upgraded to Sierra and find it works pretty much the same as before
ie. I always get the shrinkage to bottom left - UNLESS I'm connected to a
projector.

If I'm connected to a projector then it opens fine.

I've just learned to live with it ie. if I need to work on Stellarium, I
simply connect to a spare projector at home.

Here is the status of the bug, now on both retina Mac AND retina Windows computers:
(ONLY on computers with very high native resolution)

1. Download and install Stellarium 0.18 or 0.90 beta (same behavior on each).
2. Run Stellarium, change to fisheye 180 (works fine).
3. Select "Configuration\Tools\Spheric Mirror distortion" . Changes properly to mirror view.
4. Select "Configuration\Main\Save settings\
5. Quit
6. Reopen stellariium.
7. Warped window now appears very small in lower left corner, with fisheye view a little larger.

Here is a screen shot from a Dell machine:

I tried to restart Stellarium while being attached to the 1920x1080 projector but that didn’t help.
I set the size in Stellarium to 1920x1080 but that didn’t help
I changed the screen resolution from 1920x1200 to 1920x1080. That REALLY screwed it up. Now the cursor on Stellarium doesn’t select the correct item (it selects to the left and up from where the cursor is placed). Ghastly!
I tried throwing away my old config file - didn’t help

Image showing incorrect selection on the Dell:

Here is the equivalent image from my 2018 Macbook Pro (same as my 2015 macbook pro) - similar to the Dell problem but even smaller on the screen.

The only workaround is to either only use a 1920x1080 laptop (a royal pain)
OR
after every session, turn off mirror distortion, save setting, THEN turn off. then the next time we start up stellarium we have to turn the mirror distortion back on.
I *HATE* to do this when folks are in my dome.

So, sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings but it is now worse, infecting my Dell 4K machine as well as my Mac.
The problem clearly is handling the output on screens with larger pixels sizes than the attached projector.

Hi, any progress on this bug? I now have several folks hurt by this issue.

One thing that might help as a temporary would be a keystroke to toggle on/off the mirror distortion. Could save with mirror OFF and keystroke it back on at startup.
