What Revision of Slingshot are you sitting on?
And furthermore might be interesting what Version of Buuf you are using.

Buuf works just fine for me, i installed it right after reading this Report and had no problems whatsoever, actually the RAM is much lower than with f.e. Faenza (~5MB vs. ~7MB).

Somehow i have a feeling in my guts that this is connected to the uncaught GLib.Error Bugs you get upon Building.

You could try to build from my Junk Branch and see if it still happens for you since those errors are now caught correctly.

Slingshot will even listen to the icon_theme_changed event, so you won't have to reissue the command but the Icons should update on-the-fly..
