I prepared a comment to reply to the "contest for most stupid reason to avoid fixing this bug" phrase (and the following sentence, which makes a caricature of one's argument) because it hurt, but thankfully yours collided with it so it will remain private between me and me.
If a proper, side-effect-free patch is out of our reach, then I'd prefer us to give the update flag to release media and not change urpmi's behaviour. Now that's only my opinion.
