Bug Description

1. My system: Mint 16 Mate x64
2. I installed MintMenu v.5.5.3 from here (upgraded from 5.5.1):
http://packages.linuxmint.com/pool/main/m/mintmenu/
on my Mint 16 Mate x64 and after reboot I cannot scroll, or LPM on any item in the menu.
Scrolling with "midle mouse" just close the entire menu. LPM has no effect. Click don't start programs etc.
Just also closes the menu. I cannot grab the scrollbar, because as mentioned LPM closes the menu.
One thing that works is keyboard. Tab, arrow keys, enter, or "super key". Wiith them I can navigate
on menu and use programs etc.
Previously, I had 5.5.1 version and there was no problems.
3. MintMenu now is unusable.
4. I expect working menu ;) - (who make those questions in guidelines?) ;P
5. Problem happened always.

Here are my os and hardware specs:

Can't reproduce it. Maybe try turning Compiz off?

Maybe also try upgrading your NVidia driver, or even switching to the open-source one (nouveau)? An app named mintDrivers will help with that.

Ok, I try. But what the gfx drivers have with the mintMenu?
Im using proprietary driver now, from official mint repo - v.319.60.
They works normal, without any problems.

After drv. update - unchanged.
I also try 5.5.2 from Clem's beta rls:
https://github.com/linuxmint/mintmenu/releases/tag/5.5.2
and effect was that same - unusable menu.
That same issue is with package from eugenesan ppa:
https://launchpad.net/~eugenesan/+archive/ppa

Edit:
I think, this is that same issue as mine:

Yes, this seems to be the same issue as #1312675 which I reported yesterday.
I can confirm that any attempt to use the mouse wheel closes the menu as well, although the inability to use mouse clicks seems like the more severe issue.

Other than Linux Mint 16 and Mate, I don't see anything particular in common between eMcE's hardware/software specs and mine. I'm on x86, using an Intel GPU, and running a custom combination of Mate, xfwm4 and compton.

Marked as confirmed since this affects multiple users - but I still have no idea on how to reproduce it.

I'm running Linux Mint 13 64-bit. Just recently updated to MintMenu 5.5.3, and discovered the same exact problems. The problem goes away completely, however, if I disable Compiz, which is very annoying because my desktop just isn't awesome at all without Compiz! ;) Does the OP have Compiz enabled?

@mikefreeman..
This problem is solved by hordep.
Do the following (as described on mint forum):

0) You'll need admin privileges to perform these steps;
1) go to /usr/lib/linuxmint/mintMenu and do a backup of the file pointerMonitor.py for safety (copy and rename);
2) copy and paste this http://pastebin.com/Xjcajn4W into pointerMonitor.py in the same location;
3) Be aware this might lock your mouse keys if it fails, so launch system monitor or a terminal so that you can easily kill mintmenu if something goes wrong;
4) Restart mintMenu by removing from panel and re-adding. Be sure you have restarted it or you'll see no change;
5) Test and see if it is fixed.

Ps. Mouse locking/hanging is also fixed - works ok on my Mint 16 Mate x64

@mikefreeman: please test the fix and see if any flickering appears, like described in this post: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=76&t=165942#p855230

@mikefreeman: good. Was there any blinking/flickering in the menu items?

Fix released for Mint 13 and Mint 16 users - mintMenu 5.5.3.1.
Don't forget to enable "backport" in Software Sources to be able to get it.
