Bug Description

Using Fujitsu Lifebook S7111 with Linux Mint 17 updated to latest version Cinnamon 2.4 beta. When clicking the left button in the touchpad it opens up the right click menu. tap to click works fine. the problem is only with the button. The touchpad works fine with Windows 8.1.

The problem could be accidental selection of the 'Left handed (mouse buttons inverted)' options in Settings. In my view, (1) it is much too easy to selected that option accidentally (because of the combination of (i) how option selection works with (ii) that item being the *first* of the mouse and touchpad options), (2) the description of the option ('Left handed (mouse buttons inverted)') could be more intuitive.

I am also seeing this (intermittent left click results in right click context) on a Lenovo T520 running Mint Cinnamon 17 64-bit 3.13.0-24-generic.

Ouput of xinput | grep -i touchpad shows:

⎜ ↳ SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad id=11 [slave pointer (2)]

Mouse/trackpad settings do not have left/right inverted.

Symptoms appear intermittent but frequent as:

Left-click mouse results in right-click context menu popping up
Subsequent left-click results in expected left-click
This happens on hyperlinks in browsers as well as menu items, close app "X" etc so I don't believe its an issue with a small clickable area being missed.

I need to test more but believe unlike Mohamed above tapping the trackpad as opposed to using the button also does not work as expected.

The secondary buttons which accompany the trackpoint on Thinkpads seems to work as expected though I've not done extensive testing yet.

regards Kiweegie.

Can confirm I have an issue with this as well.

Also have this issue. Very annoying...anyone have a work around short of installing a different OS?

I have disabled both Two-finger and Three-finger click emulation as well as tap to click.

I have used these settings since after I upgraded to 17.2. So I used them for at least 1 week and so far no more spontaneous right clicks for me.

Same issue.
Linux Mint 17.2
HP 530 Laptop
32 bit OS.

I'm trying the suggestion abve and disabling 2 finger and 3 finger click emulation as it does feel like an emulation error rather than a hardware error.

Other symptoms:
Clipboard pasted into text field on website when left click to gain focus.
Web page tabs closed in firefox.
Right click or other menu when left clicking on close button of LM windows.

As an after thought. I've used linux since Debian Caldera RC 0.2xxx or less. I've used it as a server commercially for years. THis is the first desktop distro I would be comfortable giving to my windows users to try. THanks for a great job.

I am new to Linux. I just installed Linux Mint 17.2 to dual boot (with Windows 8.1) on a Lenovo T430. Everything works very well, except for the fact that I am also experiencing this issue, which gets very annoying after a while.

I just disabled two and three finger click and so far it looks like that took care of it. Thanks Peter Janson!!

My question is hypothetical. What if Peter's workaround hadn't worked? What is the process for reporting issues for Linux Mint? What can be expected as an outcome?

I know the nature of Linux, so I am not expecting magic, but I think it's good to know how all of this works as I get more involved in this community. Thanks!

Same problem here. Intermittently, left click acts as right click. Ubuntu 17.04, lenovo E430, USB Mouse, I use the notebook with the lid closed and have dual monitors. It started some days ago, and I've been using it for about a year now.

Sorry, my problem was actually hardware related. I cleared my mouse buttons of possible obstructions and now it works fine.
