No username option on "Choose an Event" screen

As Unit193 pointed out in channel, on freenode you can group nicknames so some folks may want to use a nickname other than their default which is grouped to their default so when they log on they get their standard freenode cloak.

How important is it? I'm afraid I don't have experience with cloaks.

Are there other reasons, perhaps with other servers, where a username would be important?

Lyz, I'm afraid I'm out of my depth here. You can put it better than me why Lernid isn't trying to be the world's most flexible/capable irc client, but I don't want to dismiss bug reports like this one until and unless I understand what is at stake. I gather you see some value in it.

Pardon me, Unit193, Is this a bell, a whistle, or something more important? I've only been working at Lernid maintenance a few months and I've got much to learn about IRC and its surrounding community and mores.

Security wise, it will not hide your hostmask/IP when you join, but I would assume the person giving the talk wouldn't use this program, correct?

Well, it would be to the paranoid, to display what project you are affiliated with, or if you need to link it to your main account for some other reason.

I do not see why this would need to go on any other servers at this time since it's made for the Ubuntu Classroom and it might not be the best idea to hook it up to your irssi-proxy ;).

I understand that this isn't an IRC client, but it already has a place for your NickServ password so I wasn't sure why it wouldn't have a place for the username also as some people may not want to disconnect their main client, be it quassel, xchat or irssi, to attend the class.

I personally would put this higher than a wishlist bug, but I would hazard a guess that's where it's going to end up.

Bug #838557 addresses showing of hostname (currently even if you use the nickserv password that Lernid provides, it takes a moment to cloak and your address is show then). However I don't really see this as a security thing, it's just noisy.

In strict IRC sense, this is what we're talking about:

Currently Lernid takes the nickname you select and a password and simply does: /msg nickserv identify password

The proposal in this bug is to instead do: /msg nickserv identify username password

Where "username" is this new field and can be an already registered nickname account with nickserv (which you may have running on irssi or something, like my "pleia2" user account) rather than the nickname you're selecting to use with Lernid (like "pleia2-lernid"). With this new username field I would be able to identify my pleia2-lernid user with my pleia2 account.

I mentioned grouping in my comment above, so I also could just group pleia2-lernid to my pleia2 account and not require this feature in lernid.

Since this would be a new feature, I will categorize this as a "Wishlist".
