This bug report dates from the days before I realized that bug reports with "should" in their summary are usually confusing, and so it was in this case.
I still think that choosing "Log Out" should return you to the front page, for the same two reasons: it's surprising to new users that it doesn't, and the current behavior is unavoidably inconsistent. But the latter, at least, is probably better addressed in bug 112776.
