@~suv - Yes very odd. And you know what, it doesn't affect Windows XP, which work exactly like OSX...

@Kris - The "'New from template' dialog" blueprint (https://blueprints.launchpad.net/inkscape/+spec/new-from-template-dialog) is still in progress and should greatly improve the UI.
