Further investigation of this error points to the SU binary not appearing on the phone when using the ./dualboot.sh script even with ./dualboot.sh full, after upgrade to Android 5.
I have used CF Auto Root by Chainfire using the instructions posted by Vinod Yalburgi at, www.ibtimes.co.uk/how-root-nexus-4-android-5-0-lollipop-chainfires-one-click-root-1475020, to enable root access by installing the SU binary so that supersu can enable su privileges for ubuntu dual boot. The download link is there and a shell script for use on linux systems is in the download. Remember to set it to run as a program, if you unzip into your home folder then, sudo ./root-linux.sh will be your step 4.
I had uninstalled, supersu, on android before following the instructions.

The process worked first time.
