Bug Description

Can not install neither hplip-3.20.3 nor older versions. After update from linux mint 19.2 to 19.3.
Before that printing was ok. Unfortunately I realised the problem too late, so Timeshift could not solve the problem anymore.

So I removed hplip-3.17.? which was working before and tried to install hplip-3.20.3 which should work with Mint 19.3
(I had the same problem with Manjaro, but there I could install hplip-3.20.3)

error: A required dependency 'pyqt4-dbus (PyQt 4 DBus - DBus Support for PyQt4)' is still missing.
error: A required dependency 'pyqt4 (PyQt 4- Qt interface for Python (for Qt version 4.x))' is still missing.
error: A required dependency 'python-dbus (Python DBus - Python bindings for DBus)' is still missing.

I tried to reinstall python but it did't help

Hi,

Try installing the packages manually and try again.

If the issue still there follow the below steps for custom installation:

(1) Run the script: ./hplip-3.20.3.run

(2) When the script prompts 'Please choose the installation mode (a=automatic*, c=custom, q=quit) :' chose 'c'

(3) Is "Linux Mint 19.3" your correct distro/OS and version (y=yes*, n=no, q=quit) ? y

(4) Would you like to install Custom Discrete Drivers or Class Drivers ( 'd'= Discrete Drivers*,'c'= Class Drivers,'q'= Quit)? : d

(5) Do you wish to enable 'Network/JetDirect I/O' (y=yes*, n=no, q=quit) ? y

(6) Do you wish to enable 'Graphical User Interfaces (Qt4)' (y=yes*, n=no, q=quit) ? n

(7) Do you wish to enable 'Graphical User Interfaces (Qt5)' (y=yes*, n=no, q=quit) ? y

(8) Do you wish to enable 'PC Send Fax support' (y=yes*, n=no, q=quit) ? y
Do you wish to enable 'Scanning support' (y=yes*, n=no, q=quit) ? y

(9) Do you wish to enable 'HPLIP documentation (HTML)' (y=yes*, n=no, q=quit) ? y

If issues persists kindly revert back

I have tried to follow these instructions using v3.20.9. I continue to have troubles.

=== The **run** script said "un-installing" but apparently did not clean up completely.
=== The **run** script did not make executable components available to the system menu.
=== The system menu does not show an "HPLIP Toolbox" or "HPLIP tray indicator". Only a "HPLIP Device Manager" is available.
=== Using the device manager, I cannot remove exiting printers. The device manager UI behaves as if it is doing something but there is no change to the list of printers or printer specific settings and details.
=== I want/need to remove printers that I no longer use
=== I want/need to modify the IP address of LAN connected printers but cannot make that happen so I need to remove those printers too.

My Configuration:
** ThinkPad X220t laptop workstation
** Linux Mint v19.3
** Cinnamon Desktop v4.4.8
