Bug Description

When I try to add a facebook account, the activation screen is displayed in Thai. Although I am in Thailand, I cannot read Thai. If possible, the system preferred language should be passed through to Facebook so globe trotting users can get through the process.

OK, Seriously what has to be done in order to get this bug upgraded (It was already given a higher priority for a duplicate bug!). It is inhibiting me (And apparently anyone who does not speak the language in the country they currently reside!) from fully enjoying the default features in my new Ubuntu (10.04) install. I am trying to be more efficient with my social networking and fixing this would go a long ways towards making me more efficient. A single point of contact for all of my social networking...

I dont think there is much that can be done. (maybe I am wrong) but in future gwibber will be using oAuth for facebook.

Facebook apparently uses IP geolocation to determine the default language, not the browser's list of preferred languages. So, to make Facebook work correctly, I think we need to send the browser's cookies in Gwibber. That way, the language override that FB uses will be present.

Accept-Language HTTP headers might work too.

(Or raising the issue with Facebook if anyone has contacts there).

Actually, Facebook seems to ignore the Accept-Language header, as do several other major sites (Google, Skype, and probably others). I don't know why they choose IP geolocation over the Accept-Language header. It's possible that the header is sometimes set incorrectly, but I'm guessing it's acceptable more often than geolocation is. However, with many major players operating the same way, it's not likely that Facebook will change.

When I did the oauth thing for Twitter, the dialog came up in French. Is that related to this bug?

I was wondering if it comes up in another language does putting in your

Omer, no it worked fine. Fortunately, even if you have no French, most English people could probably figure it out if they had to, but something completely different, like Arabic or Chinese? No way... :-)

@Jeff Stone - that would be a similar but separate bug. If Facebook provide an API allowing Gwibber to specify the language of the authentication screens, that won't help Twitter issues at all.
