If it is decided that its needed we'd pass it upstream to gnome. The problem would be that according to the upstream bug there is no standard for this hardware - the current driver is IBM-specific.

Gnome have described this as 'wishlist'.

I'm closing this bug as it isn't one - writing a spec is the way forward for this now.
