I was stated on comments 16-20 that GIO wasn't enabled on Firefox by default.
But on Ubuntu 12.04 we see after an ldd on libxul.so
libgio-2.0.so.0 => /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libgio-2.0.so.0 (0xb3d55000)
and the problem still happens. For example, directories open with Gwenview instead of Dolphin because mimeinfo.cache contains this line:
inode/directory=kde4-gwenview.desktop;kde4-dolphin.desktop;kde4-kfmclient_dir.desktop;kde4-kdesvn.desktop;
So in the end is this a GIO problem or a Firefox problem?
