Bug Description
This is a feature request. I would like that when a connection is made a vpn, that the current network connection status is reflected in the icon. What I have commonly seen in other versions of linux is a small padlock placed in the corner of the regular connection icon.

There's actually more to this bug. From a duplicate:
"The current connection icon is just the spinning circle animation, this fails to give important information about what stage your connection is at when connecting. The icon should have 4 states, 1- disconnected 2- requesting authentication from the access point (bottom light green in old NM icon) 3- authenticating with the access point (both lights green in old NM icon), 4- connected."
