In regards to https://bugs.launchpad.net/duplicity/+bug/662442/comments/5 you can use the command:

    patch -p0 < ../duplicity_hax_662442.diff

where you are in the source code directory and the patch is one level outside.

I'm attaching an updated hax patch for the latest version from the source code repo if the older patches don't work. It has not been tested as I don't have access to the faulty backup files any more.
