I've tried reproducing this with the game 'And yet it moves', 'Hammerfight' and 'Jamestown' all from a Humble Indie Bundle, but I get the appropriate behavior with fullscreen mode for all of them. Unfortunately, I'm not much of a gamer and I don't have a lot of things to test it on. Is there a certain type of game this is occurring with (e.g. Steam, wine)?
You can also try opening the drawer from a terminal in debug mode to see if any output is useful. To do that, run the drawer like so:
