If I can add a word, there are no clear logical connections between locking the screen and the screensaver. I don't use any screensaver but I still want to be able to lock the screen when I'm away so I was very surprised when clicking on Lock Screen produced no result. If that were worded Start Screensaver I would have understood, but I'd also have expected to see the screesaver start.
By the way, I'm on Jaunty and
$ dbus-send --print-reply --reply-timeout=100 --dest=org.gnome.ScreenSaver / org.gnome.ScreenSaver.Lock
gives:
Error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.gnome.ScreenSaver was not provided by any .service files
which might be a hint to another problem. I can see the previews of all the installed screensaver but they never start even if I enable them.
