Ubuntu 14.04 is still affected.

Either the default nsswitch.conf has to be updated to use dns even when mdns fails or nss-mdns has to be patched to return NSS_STATUS_UNAVAIL instead of NSS_STATUS_NOTFOUND even for .local domains.
