Wait, re-reading the initial report you updated from bzr-1.10 to bzr-2.2.0 ?
Did you run 'bzr check -v' on the repositories and 'bzr reconcile' if errors are reported ?
This may be unrelated to your actual problem but it would be good to do it anyway.
Also upgrading the repositories to the newer 2a format (introduced in 1.16) should reduce the disk usage and enhance the performances.
